Sharon Flockhart is a fine-art photographer based in London. She holds a BA in Photography, but mostly prefers to hold her camera whenever she’s able to. She is fond of abstraction, negative space and colour, and enjoys exploring these as a form of visual language. Much of her work probes the paradox of how humans perceive images – as much with the mind’s eye as with the physical eye. This means that in one way or another, the camera always lies. Rather than try to cure the lack of any singular truth in a photograph, much of her work celebrates it by creating a space for viewers to interpret and project their own meanings. That way, she hopes the participatory nature of viewing photographs will be more honestly acknowledged; that we might enjoy photography more, and be controlled by it less.
